After what seems like an unnecessary amount of time we are finally in our first hotel room of the tour. For those of us who traveled from Pittsburgh to Dulles our total travel time was around 38 hours. With a decent layover in the ever accommodating Charles de Gaule Airport of about 4 hours, we were forced to entertain ourselves. most of the solutions to this problem included reading, sleeping, playing cards, eating and trading English newspapers.
On the trip to Paris I sat next to an interesting woman from the States who worked in Brussels. She was admittedly curious as to why such a large group of teenage and twenty somethings were boarding this normally quiet Monday evening flight. She was curious about the group, though her base knowledge was less than I would have thought. I had to inform her that even though we were an all male choir our school was indeed coed.
Some members were not as lucky as the rest, with two of our guys ending up with damaged luggage, and missing items. Dan Khan's luggage literally got wrecked, his suitcase doesn't really seem to resemble its former self. I forgot to take a picture of our double-decker bus which we have christened the Knight Bus.
A visual approximation of our tour bus.
Dinner tonight was fantastic. Our first course consisted of penne pasta in a meat sauce, then potatoes and beef with tiramisu. Since this meal was just in the hotel I can't imagine what else Italy has in stored for us. Mike Pollock was able to celebrate his Birthday in style.
Sometimes you are reminded a little less subtly that you are not only representing your school, city or state, but also your country.
